IS PRIVATE SECTOR FAIR IN SRI LANKA?
According to the current situation in Sri Lanka, it seems that considerable part of economy is handled by private sector. Therefore private sector has becoming more powerful than the past. In the past, jobs were provided by the government according to education levels of school leavers or graduates. Today, school leavers can find their jobs from private sector very easily. They join jobs and practice it as their seniors have been doing in the past.
Who are the lucky?
In the past, private sector didn't have experienced or educated professionals like government organisations. Government officers have joined with private sector since they got good salary comparing with the government jobs. Today those officers have become corporate level managers or directors since their experience. They are the most lucky people in private sector.
Further more new comers who joined to private sector jobs in the past were lucky to get promotions in their career very fast since competition was very low.
Who are the unlucky?
Today, it is difficult to find a job from private sector without being a graduate. If new comer get a opportunity to work but it is not easy to find promotions because all companies are house full. New comers have to wait till their seniors get retired. It seems like very unfair but no solution.
Are income levels fair?
Upper level management don't consider about the bottom level workers. There are no one to challenge those decisions because bottom level workers in private sector do not have power. Today business environment is very competitive than the past. Bottom level workers have to work hardly to do their jobs. They are worked under high pressure. They are not paid good salaries and bonuses. They have to work for a long time to get promotions.
Is there any solution?
It is time to find new Human Resource Management theories to adapt above practical problems.
